The Oerken Leaves is the first book of the trilogy, The Whole Creation Groans, an epic adventure in which three siblings are called upon to face a familiar foe who is seeking the power of the oerken leaves in a world millions of light-years away.
It is an entertaining tale that will sweep the imaginative reader away, but does so in a way that honors the great truths revealed to us in the Scriptures.
Young teens to adult will enjoy the adventures of the trilogy.

I have always enjoyed science fiction and fantasy, whether in the cinema or a book. It might be quirky, like Men in Black, Beetlejuice, or Independence Day; or a breath-taking classic like The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings, and coming soon, The Hobbit. It doesn't seem to matter - I am irresistably drawn to them. But what I have found about the classics is that as good as the movie is, the book is better. I have enjoyed them many times over.
Fantasy has the advantage of confronting us with Christian truth in a manner not possible through normal fiction (see my article The Literary Genre of Fantasy and Its Use in Imparting Christian Truth). I agree with C. S. Lewis that fantasy is perhaps the best style in which to capture the attention of the young reader. If it is a good fantasy, it will continue to do so even after the child has grown up.
That is what I hope to do in The Whole Creation Groans trilogy. Nothing would be more rewarding than to have written a story that delights the reader and, perhaps without his knowing it, teaches the truths of God's grace, mercy, and justice triumphing over the depravity of the human heart.
I hope you enjoy The Oerken Leaves.
Josie looked back at John. “It’s not funny. Let’s assume that everything we’ve heard or read about this place is true. You could be walking along and...phhhhttt...you’re gone.” Then, with a really puzzled look, she asked, “Why would you ever go to Griffin Farm in the first place?”
“My bug collection.”
“Your bug collection?”
“Yeah. It was about a month before school let out, and everyone was working on their collection. I wanted to find some bugs that were different, so I figured if I go way out in the woods I might find just that...something different. Everyone has bees, wasps, ants, beetles, flies...that’s all we have around here. I wanted something that would make the teacher’s eyes bug out when they saw it.”
Matt chuckled, “Hey that’s a good one John; eyes bug out for a bug collection.”
Josie ignored Matt. “So you decided to go to Griffin Farm to look for bugs?”
“Not exactly.” John shrugged his shoulders. “I just took off and ended up at Griffin Farm. It is kind of neat there, you know? You can see the ruins of the house and barn.”
“And the tree?”
“Well, sort of...” Chapter 3, Once Upon A Starliner
